St Georges Lodge, Bansko, Bulgaria
Having just returned from my first Summer stay at the recently opened and now known as "St George Lodge" in Bansko, Bulgaria, I am delighted to present you with a summary of my experiences and findings whilst staying at this fantastic Spa, Ski and adventure resort.
I have travelled to and stayed in Bansko a number of times over the last 7 years and although Bulgaria and Bansko are well known for their budget credentials i have to say i was very pleasantly surprised with the overall standard of the St George lodge resort and the current standard of the Bansko 4 season Resort as a whole.
We spent time with the in house excursion team www.ridebansko.com and discovered that mountain biking is simply amazing in Bansko, that alsong with quad biking, horse riding, walking and much much more in a climate that was simply heavenly, 28 degrees and blue skies we couldnt have asked for more.
St George lodge has been completed to a very high standard and its facilities are seriously impressive. On arrival at the entrance the imposing yet stylish lobby lounge and reception sets you up for a high level of expectation and this development does not let you down with the wow factor.
The fully functioning Spa offers a large swimming pool and jacuzzi area under a stunning glass roof, ideal for relaxing and warming down the muscles after a hard day on the piste. For those that have really exerted themselves the well sized sauna and Turkish bath are a welcome luxury coupled with the treatments now on offer you can be fully fit for the following day.
In addition to all this there is a fully equipped gym and a personal trainer on hand for those that enjoy pushing themselves to the limit, for me the heated beds by the pool side were the ideal way to relax after slip sliding my way down the mountain side and the 7km ski road home.
The accommodation was comfortable, clean and stylish and although the TV could have been bigger and or maybe a further TV in the bedroom would have been good, everything else was more than except-able. I was staying in a standard 1bed apartment which could easily sleep 4 and the facilities in the room we excellent. A fully fitted kitchen had been installed should i have chosen to cook however after experiencing the delights of the restaurant within the resort and the value for money, nothing was used.
The Restaurant offered both a typical Bulgarian menu and a Italian menu. Although i tried both and on a number of occasions combined the two, the home made pasta from the Italian menu really impressed. I have eaten out in many restaurants in Bansko and you would be hard pushed to beat the restaurant at St George Palace for quality and value for money.
